For the 2015-2016 influenza season, CDC estimates that influenza vaccination prevented approximately 5.1 million influenza illnesses, 2.5 million influenza-associated medical visits, and 71,000 influenza-associated hospitalizations

The first and most important step in preventing flu (influenza) is to get a flu vaccination each year.

The flu vaccine strains for the 2017-2018 season can be found on the CDC website.
